Kimberlin Academy has a history that goes back generations, and a PTA that’s been part of the school’s story since the beginning. Here’s a look at where we came from and what we stand for and where we are going.
Our History
The school itself dates back to 1959, and Kimberlin has carried that legacy as a school of excellence ever since. Kimberlin Academy for Excellence as we know it today opened in the fall of 1987, in a building that had housed Harriet Kimberlin Elementary School for many years before that.
When the school was established as a magnet academy, admission was opened to students who ranked above the 90th percentile in test scores or showed strong artistic or musical talent, alongside students who lived nearby. That mix of neighborhood kids and magnet students is still part of what makes Kimberlin’s community special today.
School Spirit
Our mascot, the Knight, has stood for persistence in the face of obstacles, kindness to others, and respect for all throughout the years — values we try to live up to both in the classroom and in everything the PTA does.

Our PTA
The Kimberlin Academy PTA has been active since 1987 and today counts over 400 members — one of the ways our community shows up for Kimberlin students. We’re a local unit of the Garland Council of PTAs, part of District 10 of Texas PTA, and we’ve been recognized with several district awards this past year.
Kimberlin & Hillside Merge
Kimberlin and Hillside Academy are being combined into a new, state-of-the-art three-story campus. The two school communities will come together in a single building designed for modern teaching and learning, replacing our current facilities with new classrooms and shared spaces built for the future. Also, the PTA will have its very own workroom!
An exact opening date hasn’t been set yet, but the new campus is expected to be ready in 2027. Take a look at the video above for a construction progress update, and check back here as more details become available.
